At The Foundation Academy, middle school learning continues to be grounded in our TFA Senior Expectations and our belief that every student is uniquely created with strengths and purpose. In 6th–7th grade, girls are challenged to grow academically, spiritually, socially, and personally in a supportive classroom community where collaboration and perseverance are daily practices.

Academics & Thematic Learning

An example from one of our focus themes highlighted Women of World War II, connecting across subjects through project-based and inquiry-based learning. Students study the Rosie the Riveters and the WAC 6888 Battalion, learning how courage, leadership, and service shaped women's roles in history. Our literature centers around female-driven stories written by women authors, offering opportunities for rich discussions about resilience, identity, and contribution.

Throughout the year, girls engage in reading, writing, and historical inquiry that link literature, social studies, and science. These interdisciplinary connections allow them to see how women’s voices and innovations have shaped our world, past and present.

Mathematics

Math in 6th–7th grade bridges elementary foundations with the essential skills needed for high school, emphasizing pre-algebra and pre-geometry. Visual and hands-on applied learning helps students build a well-rounded understanding of the 'why' behind mathematical concepts.

Students use collaborative problem-solving and reasoning-based inquiry to strengthen both skill fluency and confidence. The program focuses on developing independent thinkers who understand that math is not just about solving problems—but about recognizing patterns, applying logic, and building connections that last beyond the classroom.

Science & STEAM

An example is our study of mycology, woven throughout the curriculum. Whether students are growing their own mushrooms, making penicillin from mold, or writing imaginative stories about fungal zombie ants, they are exploring science through creativity and experimentation.

This thematic study encourages observation, inquiry, and innovation as students uncover the fascinating relationships between fungi, ecosystems, and human discovery. Through hands-on labs and creative writing, they learn how curiosity drives scientific breakthroughs.

Character Formation, SEL, & Life Skills

Our program emphasizes the growth of the whole student—mind, body, and spirit.

• Faith & Reflection: Daily devotionals and life journals allow students to reflect on faith, purpose, and personal growth.

• Social-Emotional Learning (SEL): Students practice empathy, teamwork, and self-awareness through group challenges, discussions, and reflection activities.

• Life Skills: Organization, time management, accountability, problem-solving, and collaboration are practiced daily to prepare students for success in high school and beyond.

Additionally, girls learn essential digital literacy and technology skills through our computer science program, developing proficiency in Microsoft Teams, Word, and PowerPoint.

Whole-Person Growth

Throughout the year, students are guided to become confident learners, creative thinkers, and compassionate leaders. By exploring the stories and scientific contributions of women across history, they gain both academic mastery and a deeper appreciation of perseverance, service, and community.

All students are involved in Performing and Visual Arts, Physical Education, Tai Chi Dance, Djembe Drumming, and STEM Studies, promoting a balanced education that nurtures creativity, expression, and well-being.
